T-Mobile Lets You Upgrade More Often

If you're tired of waiting until your old T-Mobile handset is paid off before upgrading to the latest model, take heart. The wireless provider just announced a new plan to allow its subscribers to upgrade to new handsets whenever they want, or at least three times a year.

The new offer, known as Jump on Demand, is the latest salvo in the companyEUs EUUn-carrierEU campaign, in which it has thrown a series of gauntlets at its wireless competitors. The new upgrade program is set to launch June 28.

High-End Only

However, it will not be available to everyone. Only customers who buy new smartphones will be eligible, preventing existing customers from upgrading immediately. And it will only be available on a handful of high-end models, such as the iPhone 6, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, and the LG G4. But for those looking to buy new, top-line handsets in the near future, the offer may prove enticing.

Starting next week, customers will be able to buy new, high-end smartphones with no money down, paying off the cost of their devices through monthly installments over the next 18 months. During that time, they will have the option of upgrading to newer models while continuing with their plans, so long as they trade in their old models and they are still in good condition.

At the end of the 18 months, users can opt to turn in their phones and leave the service, renew their service with new phones, or pay off the remaining six-month balance, leave the service, and keep their existing handsets.

Besides giving customers the ability to upgrade their handsets before their old devices are paid off, the new payment plan also eliminates any taxes due at signing, as well as a $10 monthly fee that customers on the...
