Survey Says Custom Secure Apps Rapidly Rising in Enterprise

Custom secure apps are the new black in the mobile software world. A new study from BlackBerry-owned Good Technology reveals that the average company has developed 3.74 custom secure apps to help mobilize key business processes.

The Good Mobility Index Report Q3 2015 also points to an overarching trend in the third quarter of this year: app activations are rising rapidly. Specifically, the report shows a 30 percent quarter-over-quarter increase in app activations -- and it?EU?s not just messaging services. In addition, the study reveals a boost in the number of organizations using multiple apps beyond e-mail.

What Custom Apps Are Hot?

So what types of secure custom apps, beyond e-mail, are companies building to help mobilize key business processes? Secure browsers have led all app categories for the fourth quarter in a row. That category has seen a 57 percent growth quarter-over-quarter.

All told, secure browsers account for 37 percent of apps that organizations deploy -- and Good expects that to continue. Browsers aside, the list of popular apps includes secure Instant Messaging, as well as document access and editing.

We turned to Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT, to get his thoughts on the report. He told us the results of the Good Mobility Index Report are not terribly surprising.
