Rackspace Wants To Bring OpenStack Everywhere

Making a play to offer enterprises fully managed private clouds on any data centers, Rackspace today announced its new ?EU?OpenStack everywhere?EU? initiative, which aims to provide an integrated software, hardware, and services solution for OpenStack-powered cloud implementations.

OpenStack is an open source software platform for cloud implementations that is usually deployed as an Infrastructure-as-a-service solution. Rackspace said that the OpenStack everywhere initiative would help IT departments deploy their own clouds with less risk, work, and cost.

?EU?Companies realize they can free up money and resources for more strategic business investments when they turn their IT capital expenses into operating expenses,?EU? said Darrin Hanson, GM and VP of OpenStack Private Cloud at Rackspace, in a statement. ?EU?When OpenStack is consumed as a managed service, businesses can remove non-core operations, reduce software licensing, and minimize infrastructure acquisition and IT operations costs.?EU?

Simplifying OpenStack Deployment

The company said the new initiative is part of its overall strategy to make cloud computing simpler for enterprise clients. The ability to deploy an OpenStack cloud as a managed service in any data center the customer chooses, will allow companies to increase performance, simplify compliance, and improve data sovereignty and security, according to the company.

Rackspace said most companies are beginning to adopt a hybrid approach to the public/private cloud question to deliver improved customer experiences, increase reliability, as well as reduce infrastructure and operational costs.

?EU?OpenStack has fast become a dominant platform for private cloud, but the complexity and cost of hiring talent to deploy and operate it themselves has enterprises wanting to consume OpenStack as a managed service,?EU? the company said in the statement.

A More Flexible Deployment

The new service includes an OpenStack-powered private cloud designed by Rackspace, which can be deployed on any data center in the world. The service includes an integrated modular rack of hardware,...
