New YouTube App Helps Businesses Create Video Ads

Google is looking to make it easier for small businesses to produce their own commercials through YouTube thanks to a new service called YouTube Director. The service aims to let users create entire video ads using nothing more than their smartphones.

The service consists of three separate products: the YouTube Director for Business iPhone app; YouTube Director onsite; and YouTube Director automated video. Google, which owns YouTube, said the new product suite will make it easier for any company to produce their own video ads.

Creating Video Ads from Your Phone

YouTube has become an increasingly popular way for businesses to reach consumers with video ads. The amount of time people spend on the site watching videos has jumped at least 50 percent year over year, according to the company.

The smartphone app is free to download, but currently it's just available for iPhones and only for customers located in the U.S. or Canada. Google said the app allows users to create video ads for their businesses quickly and easily right from their phones, without any prior editing experience.

To simplify the production process, the YouTube Director app provides users with more than 100 video templates to choose from. Once selected, the app provides step-by-step advice to the user about how to create a video, including advice on how to frame a shot, what to say through dialogue, and how.
