HP Enterprise Debuts Line of Docker Containers

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) introduced a new lineup of products built for the Docker virtualization container system today at DockerCon Europe. The new products are meant to help organizations get the most out of Docker, with offerings designed to work in such categories as cloud, software, storage and services.

One product, HPE Helion Development Platform 2.0, boasts support for Docker and lets developers and IT operators deploy microservices packaged as Docker containers. Microservices use smaller code bases managed by small and agile teams, allowing applications to be used as independently deployable services. The Helion platform also includes Helion Code Engine, a continuous integration/continuous deployment service for automating building, testing and deploying code.

Support and Reference

Among other products and features, HPE also introduced StormRunner and AppPulse for Docker, tools that let developers and IT operations test, deploy and monitor Dockerized applications; Remote Docker Swarm cluster monitoring with HPE Sitescope, which manages and monitors a complete Docker Swarm cluster with HPE Sitescope, an agentless application monitoring software solution; and HPE Codar for Docker, which allows continuous deployment of hybrid workloads, part traditional and part containerized.

To bring all those elements together, HPE will soon offer 24/7 enterprise container support, as well as a Docker reference architecture and a reference guide for developers who want to deploy containers in their hybrid clouds. HPE told reporters at DockerCon Europe that as enterprises look to hybrid environments, Docker containers will become more and more relevant. The company is planning to formalize its partnership with Docker soon.

Smart Move

"It's not surprising to see Docker and modern application containers as a centerpiece of the new HP Enterprise strategy given enterprise interest in...
