Apple Launches iPhone 6s, Predicts Record Sales

Tech giant Apple is expecting records sales of the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus this weekend. The next iteration of AppleEUs iconic smartphone hit stores today. As with every new iPhone, Apple is positioning the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus as the EUmost advanced ever." The new devices run on iOS 9 and both models are available from all four major U.S. carriers.

WhatEUs new? 3D Touch is perhaps the biggest new addition. 3D Touch senses how deeply you press the display, which is supposed to make it easier to navigate the device. Beyond that, the new iPhones feature Live Photos, which bring still images to life, a 12-megapixel iSight camera, 5-megapixel FaceTime HD camera with Retina Flash and the Apple-designed A9 chip. The phone is designed with the strongest possible glass and 7000 series aluminum.

Winning Big

We caught up with Roger Entner, principal analyst at Recon Analytics, to get his take on the launch. Are customers really that interested in the new models? He told us the long lines reported in the news media tell the story -- people are voting with their feet.

EUItEUs the same form factor as the iPhone 6 with a couple of nifty advances like the 3D Touch, formerly known as Force Touch,EU Entner said. Despite minor upgrades, customers are flocking to stores to buy the new phones and long lines have reportedly formed at Apple stores around the world.

EUThe problem Apple had with the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s was that consumers moved on in terms of screen size,EU Entner said, noting only the faithful continued purchasing iPhones when larger Android phones from Samsung and other brands came to market. EUNow that Apple has competitive screen sizes they are winning very convincingly against the competition.EU
